Rigel Piñón of Mission, a UTRGV graduate student in the Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program, has been named the 2018 National Council on Rehabilitation Education Graduate Student of the Year, the 2018 American Rehabilitation Counseling Association Graduate Student of the Year, and the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals Graduate Paper of the Year for 2017-2018. The program provides nursing mothers with specially designated rooms that allow staff, faculty or student moms a safe, clean, private place to breastfeed or pump breast milk. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has established the multi-disciplinary UTRGV Center for Vector-Borne Disease (CVBD), a collaborative effort to develop a self-sustaining, research-focused center in South Texas that will study diseases like Zika, chikungunya and dengue. On April 9, the university hosted a panel event on the Edinburg Campus to formally announce and launch the center.
