    The Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation has established a $50,000 endowed scholarship to help support students at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine who declare an intention to specialize in psychiatry, neurology or a related field in the neurosciences. The Randall Baker Endowed Scholarship is named in honor of the foundation’s former executive director, Randall “Randy” Baker, who retired from his post June 30.     Dr. Leonel Vela and Dr. John Krouse form The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine welcomed its newest students with a White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Performing Arts Center of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. Marking the beginning of their education and career, the new medical students received their signature white lab coats from School of Medicine leaders, then recited the Hippocratic Oath – which acknowledges their primary role as caregivers – in the presence of their loved ones, school leaders, and peers. Dr. John H. Krouse, executive vice president for Health Affairs and dean of the UTRGV School of Medicine, congratulated the students for their achievements thus far and emphasized the importance of staying humble and showing compassion.
