Recovery can be slow after a severe injury, illness, or surgery. It would be best if you recovered your life again, your strength, your routines, and go back to participating in your favorite sports… that is, go back to doing the things you used to do.

A good physical injury diagnosis is as important as good recovery. But to reach this objective optimally, it is necessary to carry out a good rehabilitation for a specific time and follow a particular rehabilitation treatment. In addition, most specialists agree that it should be carried out as soon as possible. That is why it is essential to have the best professionals and facilities to achieve an excellent recovery as quickly as possible.

In this issue, get to know Dr. Adam Muffler, recently named Medical Director of Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (WRRH), which provides specialized inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitative services to over 600 patients a year from Mid-Valley and its surrounding areas.

News Update: A new CDC study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID) shows that flu vaccination protected children against serious flu illness even when they were infected with a flu virus that was antigenically different from the vaccine virus. This reinforces the benefit of flu vaccination, even when circulating flu viruses have drifted and are different from the virus used in vaccine production.

Right now, hospitals across the country need your blood. To put a finer point on it, your friends and neighbors need your blood. Now, they have the greatest need for need type O, specifically. Billboards and flyers often announce drives for local blood banks, but they don’t always give the clearest image of what’s happening.

Go and do your part!

You may be familiar with the expression: knowledge is power. That’s true, but it’s what you do with that knowledge that makes a difference. Fortunately, today we have access to critical knowledge and available treatments to protect us from vision loss from glaucoma — the number one cause of preventable blindness in the U.S.

January, National Glaucoma Awareness Month, is an excellent time to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam— the most effective way to test for glaucoma—and to convince your loved ones to get tested, too. In addition, it’s an excellent New Year’s resolution! Although there’s no cure for glaucoma, early treatment can often curb the damage and protect your vision.  It’s also the perfect time to learn about the risk factors that may make you more susceptible to glaucoma and treatment options.
