Frank Ambriz, clinical associate professor in the UTRGV Department of Physician Assistant Studies and program director of the Master in Physician Assistant Studies Bridge Program (MPAS), has been named the 2018 Outstanding Physician Assistant Educator of the Year by the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA). The award honors an individual who has demonstrated exemplary service to PA students and who has furthered the leadership, educational, or professional development of PA students. Professor of Medicine Named Outstanding Physician Assistant Educator of The Year

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has established the multi-disciplinary UTRGV Center for Vector-Borne Disease (CVBD), a collaborative effort to develop a self-sustaining, research-focused center in South Texas that will study diseases like Zika, chikungunya and dengue. On April 9, the university hosted a panel event on the Edinburg Campus to formally announce and launch the center.
