From Grief to Hope: Valley Mother Announces 2nd Suicide Prevention Event

Dr. Leonel Vela and Dr. John Krouse form The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine welcomed its newest students with a White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Performing Arts Center of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. Marking the beginning of their education and career, the new medical students received their signature white lab coats from School of Medicine leaders, then recited the Hippocratic Oath – which acknowledges their primary role as caregivers – in the presence of their loved ones, school leaders, and peers. Dr. John H. Krouse, executive vice president for Health Affairs and dean of the UTRGV School of Medicine, congratulated the students for their achievements thus far and emphasized the importance of staying humble and showing compassion.
