From human protagonists like Snow White, Alladin and Cinderella and animal companions like Flounder and Sebastian to magical beings and villains like Cruella de Vil, Disney characters hold a special place in the hearts of millions around the world.

For more than 95 years, Disney characters have been iconic figures in pop culture. From Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to Moana and Stitch, these animated stars have enchanted audiences and inspired new generations of fans through their films and television programs.

Through Disney on Ice, a series of touring ice shows that bring beloved Disney stories and characters to life through figure skating, Disney has been able to spread magic across communities throughout the globe.

Featuring world class figure skaters, the live shows offer an immersive experience for audiences of all ages through performances that feature a combination of new and classic Disney characters.

In the lead up to Disney on Ice’s opening night at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, South Texas Health System Children’s is partnering with Feld Entertainment, the show’s producers, to bring the magic of Disney to pediatric patients in the hospital’s care.

On Tuesday, April 22, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., patients and their family members will take part in a special meet-and-greet with some of Disney’s most beloved superstars.

“There’s no denying that special activities in children’s hospitals are instrumental in helping improve the physical and emotional well-being of hospitalized children, and this special Disney on Ice visit will be a welcome distraction from their hospitalization for our patients,” says Kimberly Davis, MBA, BSN, RN, Pediatric Administrator, STHS Children’s. “We’re committed to providing quality, compassionate care that goes beyond the medical through our Child Life Program, and we’re grateful for partners like Disney on Ice who help our patients feel more like themselves and less like they’re in a scary, unfamiliar place.”

During the event, Disney on Ice skaters, including some beloved Disney characters, will gather in the hospital’s third floor pediatric playroom to interact with patients. Additionally, the characters will conduct bedside visits for patients unable to make their way to the playroom due to medical restrictions.

As part of their magical Disney experience, patients will also receive some fantasmic Disney-themed items.

“By spending the afternoon with STHS Children’s patients and their families, Disney on Ice’s beloved characterswill help create a positive patient experience and memories that will last a lifetime,” says Tom Castañeda, System Director of Marketing and Public Relations, STHS. “We’re excited to welcome these beloved characters and share a little Disney magic with those in our community who need it most.”.
