Solara/Cornerstone Hospital conducted a Wound Care Workshop and certification on wound vacuums in February 2015 at the Edinburg Campus located at 2655 Cornerstone Blvd.

Solara collaborated with KCI, Smith & Nephew, and MiMedx to make this workshop a success and provided the most current information and trends on Wound Care for the local health care professionals in the community.

“With so many products out there and constant changes occurring I believe as a nurse that we need to be informed on the current trends and treatment.  By attending seminars, in-services and just getting out there to learn about new products can really make a difference on the healing process of our patients’ wounds.  By hosting our own mini seminars we are able to reach out to the healthcare providers that in turn provide the care for our community,” said Lorena Ortiz-Hernandez, Wound Care nurse for Solara-Cornerstone Health Group of McAllen and Edinburg.

“The wound care in-service was open to the public and we have a great turnout with over 200 healthcare professionals attending from all over the Rio Grande Valley.  We look forward to hosting many more in-services not just in wound care but also in all of our specialties,” said Ortiz-Hernandez.

“Solara/Cornerstone Hospitals of McAllen and Edinburg are part of the Cornerstone Healthcare Group Long Term Acute Care Hospitals, specializing in the treatment of medically complex patients who require individualized, interdisciplinary acute care for an extended recovery time. We pride ourselves on our quality of care, responsive service and commitment to excellence. We treat each patient like we would a member of our own family, and measure our success by the direct impact we have on improving the quality of life for our patients,” she said.

“Our mission is to advance and nurture healing, provide hope to patients and families, and make a difference in the lives of those we serve,” declared Ortiz-Hernandez. MDN
