About the Event

Harlingen Medical Center (HMC) & Texas State Technical College (TSTC) are teaming up to promote health and wellness and raise awareness of Celiac Disease – with the first HMC & TSTC Celiac Disease Awareness 5k Run/1m Walk.  The goal with the run-walk is to bring education to the residents of South Texas regarding the health-related risks linked to celiac disease, which is a genetic autoimmune disorder where the ingestion of gluten leads to possible damage in the small intestine.

The Run-Walk is OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY!  It will feature complimentary basic medical screenings, health and wellness education, a Zumba-warm-up session prior to the run/walk, an Education Expo with demonstrations on healthy meal preparation, gluten-free food options, education on celiac disease, Doc Talk Lectures featuring expert presentations on healthy-living, fun activities for young children, and much more!
