EDINBURG, Texas – The Alzheimer’s Association San Antonio and South Texas Chapter proudly invites Rio Grande Valley residents to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Research Update: The Latest in Alzheimer’s Disease Treatments and Research on September 23, 2025. The event will feature Dr. Maria C. Carrillo, Chief Science Officer, Alzheimer’s Association. Dr. Carrillo oversees the Association’s research initiatives, guiding efforts to accelerate progress in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 

“We are proud to be partnering with DHR Health Institute for Research and Development and Methodist Healthcare Ministries to bring this event to the Rio Grande Valley,” says Marcie McDonald, Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association San Antonio & South Texas Chapter. “Access to the latest information and resources is critical. We are incredibly fortunate to bring together such a distinguished group of local experts.”

This event, which is free and open all, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Edinburg Conference Center at the Renaissance.

Following Dr. Carrillo’s Alzheimer’s & Dementia Research Update, there will be a Q&A session with Dr. Carrillo and DHR Health panelists including Dr. Scott Lillibridge, VP & CEO, DHR Health Research & Development Institute, Dr. Jose E. Igoa, Medical Director, DHR Health Behavioral Hospital and Dr. Roberto A. Cruz, Neurologist, DHR Health Neurology Institute and Dr. Monica M. Betancourt-Garcia, VP DHR Health Institute for Research & Development.

Caregivers, students, healthcare professionals, and community members interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease and the future of dementia care are invited to attend.

Continuing Education (CE) certificates will be available for Registered Nurses (RN), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Social Workers (SW), Community Health Workers (CHW), and Long-Registration is required to receive CE certificates.
