Helen Aladesium is combining her passion for technology and health care as she pursues an associate degree in Nursing at South Texas College.

With less than a year left before graduating, Aledasium is focused on achieving her dream of becoming a nurse informaticist a role that combines nursing expertise with data management to improve patient care.

“I’ve admired the profession of nursing since I was young. I’ve always felt a strong drive to ensure people’s well-being and connect deeply with others. This profession allows me to merge my passion for empathy and care with my skills in technology,” said Aladesium.

Her journey into nursing began with online research, leading her to STC. Living in Edinburg, she found the college’s proximity and affordability to be an ideal match for her goals.

“STC has impacted me significantly,” she shared. “Their inclusive environment and comprehensive curriculum have built my confidence and made me feel competitive in this field.”

One of her most meaningful experiences this past semester was visiting hospice centers, where she worked to bring comfort and positivity to residents.

“It was an eye-opening and rewarding experience,” she said. “It reaffirmed my decision to pursue nursing.”

As she approaches her final semesters, she is determined to stay focused and to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination to become a licensed registered nurse.

“I remind myself to remain persistent and keep pushing forward,” Aledasium said.

She added that she draws daily motivation from her own sense of accomplishment and her commitment to achieving her goals.

“Making myself proud is one of the best feelings,” she said. “It’s what drives me to succeed every day.”

Despite her busy schedule, she finds time to pursue extracurricular activities such as singing and dancing, which brings joy and balance to her life. She is also deeply inspired by her large family, including four siblings, who have supported her throughout her academic journey.

Aladesium is excited to step into a profession that perfectly blends her compassion, technical expertise and drive for excellence.
