Weslaco / Mercedes – A series of free health talks by doctors as well as health fairs will be held this fall, winter, and spring at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco and the new Knapp / UTRGV Family Health Center in Mercedes.
All of the “Doc Talks”, “Senior Health Talks”, and health fairs are free and open to the community – and include refreshments and drawings for door prizes. Below is a tentative schedule of events:
Thursday, September 6 at 6 p.m.– Doc Talk on preventing obesity, Dr. Gerardo Munoz Monaco, Family Medicine Physician. Location: Knapp / UTRGV Family Health Center (located off Expressway 83 at the N. Mile 2 West Rd. exit in Mercedes, across from Med High and Science Academy
Thursday, October 4 at 6 p.m.– Doc Talk on weight management, Dr. Gerardo Munoz Monaco, Family Medicine Physician. Location: Knapp / UTRGV Family Health Center, Mercedes
Tuesday, October 16 at 12:30 p.m.– Senior Health Talk on breast cancer and mammography. Location: KMC Conference Center (free-standing two-story building on the west side of Knapp Medical Center, 1408 E. 8th Street, Weslaco. The conference center has its own parking lot and entrance and is located across from baseball fields at Isaac D. Rodriguez Park.)
Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.– Fall Prevention Fair sponsored by Knapp Medical Center and Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. Free vision and health screenings and information on preventing falls in the senior population. Location: Knapp / KMC Conference Center, Weslaco
Thursday, November 1 at 6 p.m.– Doc Talk on controlling cholesterol, Dr. Gerardo Munoz Monaco, Family Medicine Physician. Location: Knapp / UTRGV Family Health Center, Mercedes
Tuesday, November 13 at 12:30 p.m.– Senior Health Talk on hip pain and arthritis, Dr. Michael Sander, Orthopedic Surgeon. Location: Knapp / KMC Conference Center, Weslaco
Thursday, December 6 at 6 p.m.– Doc Talk on controlling high blood pressure, Dr. Gerardo Munoz Monaco, Family Medicine Physician. Location: Knapp / UTRGV Family Health Center, Mercedes
Tuesday, January 22 at 12:30 p.m.– Senior Health Talk – topic to be announced. Location: Knapp / KMC Conference Center, Weslaco
Tuesday, February 19 at 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.– Senior Health Fair with free health screenings and information on healthcare. Location: Knapp / KMC Conference Center, Weslaco
Tuesday, March 26 at 12:30 p.m.– Senior Health Talk on preventive medicine, Dr. Miguel Tello, Family Medicine Physician. Location: Knapp / KMC Conference Center, Weslaco
