Edinburg, TX — The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) announced that the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance has been accredited for a period of three years for its Adult, Children and Adolescents, and Stroke rehabilitation programs. This is the second consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body has given to the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance.

Located on the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) campus, the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance is the only facility in Edinburg that has a CARF Accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation program and is the only facility in the Rio Grande Valley that has accredited Children and Adolescent and Stroke Specialty Inpatient Rehab programs.

“We at the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance are honored and excited to be another one of the many DHR services striving for excellence. We opened our doors 11 years ago and have evolved into what we are today,” states Dr. Saroja Viswamitra, Medical Director at the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance. “Thank you to our amazing rehabilitation team for being affable, available and accountable, always taking the initiative to advance our facility to another level.”

The Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance received a three year CARF re-accreditation in the areas of adult rehabilitation, pediatric/adolescent rehabilitation and stroke.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process. It has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

The Ekso GT™ robotic exoskeleton is the latest enhanced rehabilitation service offered at the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance. The exoskeleton is designed for patients who have suffered from a stroke or spinal cord injuries to become mobile at an earlier stage in their recovery. This type of therapy is shown to improve balance, cadence and the overall number of steps taken by patients.

“Accreditation is a public statement that the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance strives to ensure that our services are of the highest possible quality,” states Maritza Padilla, BSN, RN, CRRN, Director of Rehabilitation Nursing Services at the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance. “CARF accreditation demonstrates to our customers that we have made a commitment to put the needs of the person served at the center of everything we do.”

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. For more information about the accreditation process, please visit the CARF website at  www.carf.org.
