Medical emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Often occurring when we least expect them, they require swift action.

If a person is involved in a traffic accident, experiencing a stroke or heart attack or dealing with a poisoning-related condition or another issue requiring critical care, there can be serious danger of damage to their health if they don’t get prompt medical attention.

But Pharr residents and individuals visiting or working in the city will soon have convenient access to emergency medical care 24/7 with the opening of South Texas Health System’s seventh freestanding emergency department, South Texas Health System ER Pharr.

Located near the busy intersection of W. Ridge Rd. and S. Cage Blvd., STHS ER Pharr – part of the South Texas Health System Trauma & Critical Care Institute, the largest network of trauma and critical care in the Rio Grande Valley – will provide the same services found at the system’s hospital-based emergency rooms. The full-service emergency room will be capable of providing round-the clock care to adults and children dealing with emergency medical conditions including chest pain, broken bones, minor lacerations and flu and other ailments. The facility will also be able to provide stabilizing treatment for individuals of all ages experiencing trauma, stroke, heart attack, respiratory distress, head injury, abdominal pain and orthopedic injuries.

To provide quality, compassionate care to patients and ensure the facility operates smoothly, South Texas Health System is recruiting exceptional clinical and non-clinical professionals to join STHS ER Pharr’s all-star team.

To fill dozens of open positions at the freestanding emergency department, STHS will host a special hiring event on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m., at University Draft House Townlake in McAllen. Open positions include registered nurses, nurse managers, patient care technicians, radiology and CT technicians and environmental services workers.

Recruiters and facility leaders will be on hand to meet with prospective employees and highlight South Texas Health System’s competitive salaries, great benefits package and sign-on bonuses for qualified applicants. Candidates will have the opportunity to interview during the event and provisional job offers will be extended on the spot.
