EDINBURG, Texas – For decades, the circus has delighted audiences with its dazzling spectacle and unforgettable performances. From vibrant costumes and dramatic lighting to gravity-defying acrobatics and thrilling feats, the Big Top offers an experience that captures the attention of children and adults alike.
For more than 140 years, Ringling Bros. has helped shape that legacy. After joining forces with Barnum & Bailey in the early 20th century, the iconic entertainment brand became known as “The Greatest Show on Earth®.” Today, under Feld Entertainment, the reimagined, animal-free production continues touring the nation, bringing its unique blend of artistry, athleticism and family entertainment to communities across the country.
“The circus holds a special place in the hearts of children and families,” said Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer of South Texas Health System (STHS) Children’s and STHS Edinburg. “Ringling Bros. has a remarkable ability to inspire awe and create lasting memories through its extraordinary performances.”
In advance of Ringling Bros.’ stop at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, STHS Children’s partnered with Feld Entertainment on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to bring the excitement of the Big Top directly to pediatric patients and their families.
During the special visit, members of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Hype Crew, a high-energy promotional team that travels ahead of the main tour, transformed the hospital into a mini circus experience.
“I’ve never been to a circus before, so getting to see the performers up close and interact with them was really cool,” said 14-year-old Yeraldy Tellez, who missed the first day of her freshman year after being admitted to the hospital. “Being in the hospital can get boring, so having them come visit gave me something fun to look forward to and helped take my mind off why I’m here. It made my day a lot better.”
Through interactive performances featuring juggling, unicycle riding, acrobatic breakdancing and jump-rope tricks, the four-member troupe offered patients an exclusive preview of the reimagined “Greatest Show on Earth,” filling the pediatric playroom and hospital hallways with laughter, excitement and unforgettable memories.

“The circus is all about creating unforgettable experiences,” said Juanita Olivo, Ringling Hype Crew host and singer. “Being able to share that excitement with children receiving care at STHS Children’s is incredibly rewarding. A smile, a laugh or a moment of wonder can go a long way in helping patients and families stay positive during their healthcare journey. If we can help brighten a child’s day and provide a welcome distraction while they’re in the hospital, then we’ve accomplished something truly special.”
Following the conclusion of their performance in the hospital’s third-floor pediatric playroom, the Ringling Hype Crew continued spreading smiles with bedside visits to patients unable to attend due to medical restrictions. The personalized interactions ensured that every child had the opportunity to experience the excitement and energy of the circus, regardless of their condition.
To help extend the experience beyond the hospital walls, patients received a Ringling-themed Highlights activity book and complimentary tickets to attend the circus during its Rio Grande Valley tour stop, giving them something special to look forward to as they continued their recovery.

Fans can also help support local pediatric patients through a special fundraising partnership benefiting the STHS Children’s Child Life Program.
