Edinburg, TX—Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Health System (DHR) is pleased to announce the Inaugural Obesity Summit, hosted in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute. The summit will take place at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. This unique, one-day educational symposium will be comprised of multi-disciplinary didactic presentations designed to engage the audience with other healthcare practitioners interested in discussing the causes of obesity, effects of comorbidities, and current and novel preventive strategies. The Obesity Summit is designed for healthcare professionals who have an interest in the obesity-related subspecialties of bariatric surgery, endocrinology, internal medicine, nutrition and weight management, cardiology, and psychology.

The Obesity Summit will feature interactive workshops, a meet-the-presenter luncheon, clinical case presentations with an open panel discussion, and a question and answer session. Doctors Hospital at Renaissance and Cleveland Clinic staff will be present at the summit to allow participants to ask more detailed questions about the obesity treatment processes at their respective institutions.

During the Obesity Summit, participants will be able to view a live transmission of a bariatric surgery performed by Dr. Philip Schauer and Dr. Manish Singh. By viewing the live surgery, participants will gain better insight into the procedure and learn how to, in turn, provide quality follow-up care for postsurgical bariatric patients. Dr. Philip Schauer is a Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine as well as Chief of Minimally Invasive General Surgery and Director of Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute. Dr. Schauer is also the President of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Manish Singh is the Medical Director of Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Bariatric and Metabolic Institute and Adjunct Assistant Profession of Surgery at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio

The distinguished panel of presenters includes world-renowned physicians and healthcare professionals from across the country. Dr. Robert Kushner, Professor of Medicine and Clinical Director of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, will discuss the disease of obesity and its comorbidities. Dr. Bartolome Burguera, Director of Obesity Programs at Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute, will speak about lifestyle intervention strategies and proven results. Dr. Leslie Heinberg, Director of Behavioral Sciences at Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute and Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, will present on the perioperative psychological management of the bariatric patient. Numerous other informative lectures will be provided throughout the day, with a concluding question and answer session with all presenters taking place at 3:00 PM.
