EDINBURG, Texas — DHR Health will host its 20th Annual Fishing for Hope Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Jim’s Pier on South Padre Island, continuing a long-running fundraising effort to support the Hope Family Health Center.

According to DHR Health, proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Hope Family Health Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides primary medical care and integrated behavioral health services to uninsured and low-income families throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

The annual event marks two decades of community support for the center, which offers healthcare services through volunteer physicians, healthcare professionals, and staff. DHR Health is encouraging anglers, businesses, and community members to register teams, become sponsors, and participate in the tournament’s raffle activities.

In announcing the event earlier this year, Minerva Echols, director of the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, said, “For 20 years now, our Fishing for Hope Tournament has demonstrated the incredible generosity of our community. This event is more than just a fishing tournament—it is about ensuring that uninsured and low-income families have access to the healthcare services they need. Every dollar raised goes to help the Hope Family Health Center provide these much-needed services.”

The tournament will be held at Jim’s Pier on South Padre Island, with participants competing while raising funds for the nonprofit clinic. Organizers are inviting the public to register teams, become event sponsors and purchase raffle tickets. Information and registration are available by calling the DHR Health Events Department at (956) 362-3140.

The event follows the success of last year’s tournament, which raised more than $500,000 for the Hope Family Health Center. DHR Health reported that the tournament has become one of the largest nonprofit fishing tournaments on the Texas coast and has generated millions of dollars over its history to support healthcare services for uninsured and underserved residents in the Rio Grande Valley.
