“Hello, I’m Texas Medical Board President Dr. Sherif Zaafran.

I want to wish my fellow physicians throughout Texas and beyond all the best on this important day, National Doctors Day.

Every year on March 30th we recognize and celebrate the contributions of physicians who care for our nation’s citizens. This year is especially notable as it is the 30th anniversary since President George H.W. Bush signed the proclamation designating the March 30th national holiday. And it comes at no better time to recognize physicians’ contributions to the health of our country and the great sacrifices physicians have made this past difficult year and continue making today.

Most have endured long, countless hours caring for our sick and vulnerable – spending much time away from their families who have shared in the sacrifices. Sadly, we have also lost many physicians to this terrible virus that we continue the fight against. With more of us everyday getting vaccinated, there is finally hope ahead for a brighter future for all of us.

It is even clearer today just how critical of a role physicians play in all of our communities caring for and keeping our neighbors and those we love healthy and well. For me personally, I am privileged and honored to be able to care for those in my community, and I know many others share this sense of duty and it’s a big reason we worked so hard to become doctors.

Please join me in reaching out to my fellow physicians – even virtually – to show them our heartfelt gratitude and support on this special day. Thank you for all you do every day physicians – and happy National Doctors Day!”
