EDINBURG, Texas – As treatment for breast cancer continues to advance, new guidelines and best practices are being introduced that can be challenging for providers to stay up to date with. In the primary care setting, staying current on these updates and strengthening coordination of care is vital to improving the diagnostic evaluation of newly diagnosed patients, ensuring timely follow-up, and maintaining continued surveillance.
To support providers in the community, the DHR Health Continuing Medical Education Department will host the Breast Cancer Symposium on Saturday, October 11, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, located at 118 Paseo del Prado. The daylong course will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is open to a wide range of healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and oncology navigators. The event also welcomes current physician residents and medical students who wish to strengthen their knowledge of breast cancer care. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

The symposium will feature presentations from nationally recognized experts including Dr. Anees Chagpar, Dr. V. Suzanne Klimberg, Dr. Kristi Funk, Dr. Monica Morrow, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, along with specialists from DHR Health. Topics will include the role of diet and lifestyle in breast cancer risk and outcomes, genetics and breast cancer, breast cancer in young women, advances in breast reconstruction, and other timely updates.
By bringing these important discussions to the Rio Grande Valley, the DHR Health Breast Cancer Symposium highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to equipping providers with the most current knowledge to deliver high-quality care for patients in the region.
