BROWNSVILLE, Texas – DHR Health is proud to announce that Aida Coronado, FNP-BC, executive vice president and chief operations officer for DHR Health Brownsville, has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Texas Workforce Investment Council. As a gubernatorial appointee, Coronado will join fellow council members to assist the Governor and the Legislature with strategic planning for and evaluation of the Texas workforce system. Specifically, they have mandates in state and federal law that requires them to fulfill certain planning, evaluation, research, and review responsibilities for the workforce system, which is composed of workforce programs and initiatives across eight state agencies. The Council also serves as the State Workforce Investment Board under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in overseeing and coordinating workforce programs across Texas. The council is responsible for planning, evaluating, researching, and providing support for 19 different workforce initiatives statewide.
“Being born and raised in Brownsville, and growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, gives me a unique insight into the interconnectedness of education, workforce, and economic development,” said Coronado. “As a member of the council, I have an important responsibility to advocate for a workforce system that strengthens the ties between these critical areas. I am humbled and grateful to Governor Abbott for appointing me to the Texas Workforce Investment Council and for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Texas.ā
Coronado underwent a rigorous application and interview process before being selected for the council. She currently serves as chairman of DHR Healthās Advanced Practice Providers Process Improvement, Allied Health Committees, and she represents the organization on the Medical Executive Committee and Advisory Board Member with Lone Star National Bank.
In addition to her leadership at DHR Health, Coronado honorably served in the United States Public Health Service. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (formerly UT Brownsville) and her Master of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M UniversityāCorpus Christi.
A special gathering was recently held in honor of this appointment. She was surrounded by family, friends, colleagues of DHR Health Hospital System, and representatives from Lone Star National Bank. She will be traveling to Austin to attend council meetings while continuing her duties and responsibilities with DHR Health. Her appointed term with the council expires September 1, 2025.
