McAllen, Texas – Cassie Garcia, the current duchess of White Wing, working under the Texas Citrus Fiesta, has worked on bringing forth community events that she feels strongly passionate about.  As the holiday season was fast approaching, Garcia thought it would be a great opportunity to give back to those that helped her and her mom over 17 years ago.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rio Grande Regional Hospital (RGRH) holds a special place in the heart of Garcia and her mom, Monica.  Seventeen years ago, Garcia was born weighing only 2 pounds, 10 ounces and spent 58 days in the RGRH NICU.  Both Cassie and her mom, are very grateful for the physicians and nurses who worked endlessly to bring her to good health.

Garcia and her fellow duchesses from the Texas Citrus Fiesta came together and donated nonperishable snacks, onesies, mittens, hats, toiletries and more to the RGRH NICU patients and their parents.  “My hope is that the donations we brought forward by the Texas Citrus Fiesta and the community will provide comfort to the NICU parents, children and team,” said Garcia.  “I can’t thank the NICU staff enough for their help 17 years ago and for their continued help today.”
