McAllen, Texas, — Rio Grande Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer Cris Rivera announced that Jose Hernandez has been named Chief Financial Officer of Rio Grande Regional Hospital, effective Tuesday, June 15, 2020. Hernandez succeeds Charles Mallon, who recently retired.

Hernandez brings 26 years of financial, operational, and business management experience in the healthcare field to Rio Grande Regional Hospital. He has served in various financial roles in the healthcare industry since 1994 when he started his career.  Hernandez joined the HCA Healthcare family in 2016.  Most recently, he was the Chief Financial Officer at HCA Healthcare affiliate – Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

“Hernandez previous experience as a healthcare executive and his proven leadership record will be a tremendous asset to Rio Grande Regional Hospital as we continue to expand our operations and patient services to meet the growing needs of the communities we serve,” said Cris Rivera, Rio Grande Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer.

Hernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg, Texas and a master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
