EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health’s Neuroscience Institute will host a free seminar for stroke survivors who want improved hand and arm movement as many stroke survivors experience impaired mobility and loss of function in the arm which can significantly affect their ability to   perform everyday activities.

This event will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on September 19, 2026, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance located at 118 Paseo Del Prado. The informational session will be conducted by Dr. Juan Torres-Reveron, DHR Health neurosurgeon and DHR Health Director of Neuro Therapy Institute, Michael Auer, PT, DPT, C/NDT.

The informational session will focus on a treatment therapy for stroke survivors called Vivistim. Vivistim is considered the first-of-its-kind breakthrough technology that uses vagus nerve stimulation during rehabilitation therapy and daily activities to help improve upper limb function for stroke survivors. This pairing helps strengthen the brain connections needed to improve hand and arm function, providing a stroke survivor with a much-needed boost during rehabilitation therapy and daily activities.

DHR Health is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to offer this innovative technology for stroke survivors. This treatment is made possible through close collaboration between the neurosurgeon, Dr. Torres-Reveron, and therapists at DHR Health’s Neuro Therapy Institute, who guide the patient through rehabilitation. Dr. Torres-Reveron implants and manages the Vivistim device in the patient, while the therapists at the DHR Health Neuro Therapy Institute pair the device’s stimulation with repetitive and purposeful arm and hand exercises.

“DHR Health invites all stroke survivors, their families, and caretakers to this free educational event to receive additional information and ask questions,” said Marissa Castaneda, senior executive vice president for DHR Health.
