LAREDO, Texas – Members of the DHR Health Transplant Institute recently traveled to the city of Laredo to take part in the Laredo Kidney Foundation’s Bowl-a-thon fundraiser. The event was held at Jett Bowl North on May 5, 2026. The theme of the event was “Be a Hero for Kidney Health” and the purpose was to raise awareness of kidney disease, dialysis, organ donation, and early prevention. In addition to serving kidney patients of the Rio Grande Valley, the DHR Health Transplant Institute also sees patients who travel from Laredo to the RGV.

“We are honored to take part in the Laredo Kidney Foundation’s event and support the patients and families they serve. Kidney disease impacts so many individuals in South Texas and events such as these offer a sense of community to those facing these health challenges,” said Dr. Sridhar Allam, DHR Health Transplant Institute medical director and nephrologist.

Established in 2017, the DHR Health Transplant Institute is the only medical facility of its kind south of San Antonio and Houston. This means that patients do not have to travel out of town to receive world-class transplantation services. The multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians and other healthcare providers at the DHR Health Transplant Institute provide specialized and compassionate care for kidney, liver, and pancreatic disorders, including kidney transplantation. The DHR Health Transplant Institute is certified by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). The team provides patients with the comprehensive care they need to receive a second chance at life.
