The Rio Grande Valley is expected to see unusually warm weather through the weekend, followed by a noticeable cooldown and rain early next week, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.

Forecast data from the National Weather Service shows daytime temperatures climbing into the upper 80s from Friday, Dec. 26, through Sunday, Dec. 28. Overnight lows during that period are expected to stay mild, generally in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

Meteorologists indicate that Friday will be partly sunny and dry, with afternoon highs approaching the upper 80s. Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny and breezy, with similar temperatures. Sunday is forecast to remain warm, with scattered clouds and continued dry conditions across much of the region.

The pattern is expected to change on Monday, Dec. 29, as a cold front moves through South Texas. The National Weather Service forecast shows rain and drizzle developing, mainly during the morning hours, with temperatures falling significantly compared to the weekend.

High temperatures on Monday are expected to reach only the upper 60s, with nighttime lows dropping close to 50 degrees. Cloud cover is forecast to remain widespread as cooler air settles into the Valley.

Cool conditions are expected to continue on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Forecasts call for mostly cloudy skies, highs in the lower 60s, and overnight lows in the mid-40s. Rain chances are expected to decrease, but temperatures will remain below the seasonal warmth seen earlier in the period.

By Wednesday, Dec. 31, conditions are forecast to improve. The National Weather Service projects a return of sunshine, with highs rebounding into the low 70s and overnight lows in the upper 50s, offering milder weather for New Year’s Eve.

Overall, the forecast points to a dramatic shift in weather over six days, moving from late-spring-like warmth to cool, cloudy conditions before moderating again by the end of the year. Residents are advised to prepare for changing conditions, particularly the cooler temperatures and rain expected early next week.
