Camila S. Arce Perez, 18, has begun her journey toward becoming a radiology technician at South Texas College, with hopes of building a stable career that will allow her to balance work and family life.

Currently in her first semester of her associate degree program, Interdisciplinary Studies, Perez has already decided that when she graduates she will pursue a degree in Radiologic Technology, inspired by her passion for health-related fields and her desire to stay close to her loved ones.

“Things related to health have always caught my attention, but I never saw myself studying any of those professions,” Perez said. “I’ve always been someone who loves open spaces and prefers walking through the countryside rather than working in an office. But ultimately, I chose radiology because it gives me the stability I need to spend more time with my family.”

Perez learned about STC’s Radiologic Technology program through a family friend who recently graduated. After hearing about the experience, she knew it was the right path for her.

“I asked her about the program, and she told me everything she remembered,” Perez said. “The more I learned, the more I knew this was what I wanted to do.”

Reflecting on her recent high school experience in Mexico, Perez said she cherishes the sense of community and support she received to take the leap toward college.

“It was a small school, but it was full of people who always supported you and made you laugh. My classmates were amazing,” Perez said.

However, her biggest motivation comes from her parents, who have instilled in her the belief that education is the key to a successful future.

“My parents have always told me that the only inheritance worth giving is education,” Perez said. “That’s why I want to keep studying…I have clear goals and I want to be someone great in life.”
