One question sparked it all: Could the number of cancer deaths be lowered by empowering people to take a more active role in their health? Learn from CDC’s Dr. Lisa Richardson about how EmPOWERed Health, a new CDC and CDC Foundation program, is aiming to improve cancer prevention and outcomes. Dr. Richardson shares the goals of EmPOWERed Health and the importance of empowering individuals to seek the care they need for cancer prevention and treatment, and to take actions to stay healthy: “Empowerment can result in more people getting cancer screenings, a greater feeling of control during cancer diagnosis and treatment, and a better care plan for cancer survivors.”

A new report from the American Cancer Society shows cancer survival rates here in the United States have reached a new milestone. The five-year survival rate for all cancers is now 70% for people diagnosed from 2015 through 2021.
