McAllen Public Library to Host Community Health Fair, August 2nd

McAllen Public Library will host its annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library on 23rd Street and Nolana Avenue. Attendees will be able to receive a variety of free health screenings, including blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI, thyroid scans, vision checks, dental screenings, and liver screenings. Those interested in liver checks are encouraged to arrive fasting. A blood donation drive with Vitalant will also take place on site. In addition to screenings, visitors can connect with health providers at informational booths and enjoy wellness-focused activities suitable for all ages. Courtesy image

This year’s health fair brings together a network of community partners dedicated to improving the well-being of residents. Participants include Access Esperanza Clinics, Amara Hospice, ASAS Health, Capable Kids, College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), Delta Crucis Direct Medical Care, Department of Veterans Affairs, DHR Health, DHR Health Science Institute, FIT4MOM, Hidalgo County Health Department, McAllen Parks & Recreation, MHP Salud, Nuestra Clinica del Valle, Rodeo Dental, Smile Innovations, Smile Magic Dental, South Texas Research Institute, South Texas Training Center, Texas A&M Health, Texas Therapeutic Clown Association, UTRGV’s Department of Physician’s Assistants, UTRGV Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND), Valley Association for Independent Living (VAIL), Vitalant, Walmart Vision Center, WellMed, and Workforce Solutions.

“Our goal is to make health and wellness resources more accessible to every member of our community,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “Whether you’re looking to get a quick screening or learn new wellness habits, this event offers a starting point for a healthier lifestyle.”

“A healthy McAllen is a strong McAllen,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos, emphasizing the city’s commitment to wellness. “We’re proud to support programs like this that put people first and make a real impact in our neighborhoods.”

City Manager Isaac J. Tawil added, “This health fair reflects our ongoing effort to meet residents where they are. By bringing together local providers and city services under one roof, we’re helping families take charge of their health in a meaningful, approachable way.”
