RIO GRANDE VALLEY (March 20, 2015) – IDEA Public Schools, a growing network of tuition-free K-12 public schools serving nearly 20,000 students in 36 schools across Texas, will host its 4th Annual 5K and Health Fair, IDEA 5K4, on March 28 from 8 to 10:30 am at Harlon Block Sports Complex to support its wellness program, Healthy Kids Here.

IDEA’s wellness program launched six years ago as an effort to educate students and families on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. In 2015, IDEA renamed its wellness efforts Healthy Kids Here.

Healthy Kids Here aims to make health and wellness a prevalent part of IDEA’s culture and has the goal of becoming the healthiest school district in the nation.

“Healthy Kids Here has taken IDEA’s core value of high expectations to another level,” said Irma Munoz, Chief Operating Officer for IDEA Public Schools. “We have high expectations in the classroom and for our students’ minds and bodies. This 5K is a continued opportunity for us to show our commitment to communities we serve.”

IDEA’s 5K has grown to serve more than 500 participants in the past three years.

IDEA’s 5K4 and Health Fair is a great opportunity for all families to learn about wellness from local businesses and community organizations that are committed to health. Families can also take advantage of free health screenings from local clinics.
