Edinburg, TX — Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley will be hosting a community ribbon cutting event on Saturday, August 17. The ribbon cutting was originally planned for June but was postponed due to weather.

Rio Grande Valley residents are invited to celebrate the opening of the first freestanding designated children’s hospital in the Valley with a morning of food, drinks, and activities. The event is free of charge and open to anyone.

“This is truly a momentous occasion for pediatric healthcare in South Texas and we’re honored to have Senator Hinojosa, who has been an advocate for our children for so many years, here to celebrate with us,” said Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley President Matt Wolthoff. “We invite the community to come and help us cut the ribbon on a new standard of care for our kids in the Rio Grande Valley.”

Those attending the event will receive special commemorative Driscoll goodies, including a minted coin with the hospital’s engraved image.

Texas Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa will be in attendance to deliver remarks and receive an award from the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas. The nonprofit group representing children’s hospitals in Texas will honor Senator Hinojosa with a “Children’s Health Care Hero Award” for his work in the legislature advocating to improve health care for children.
