Edinburg, TX – On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, DHR Health Transplant Institute physicians, staff, patients and living kidney donors will gather as La Plaza Mall and Donate Life Texas dedicate the Inaugural Giving Tree Ceremony to memorialize the greatest gift of the holiday season, the Gift of Life.

The ceremony will take place inside La Plaza Mall, in front of Dillard’s, located at 2200 S. 10th Street, McAllen, Texas and will begin at 6:30 pm.  Donors and their families will honor those who have given the Gift of Life through organ, eye and tissue donation.

Donor families will hang personalized ornaments on the tree to inspire individuals from the Rio Grande Valley to sign up as donors with Donate Life Texas, the state’s official registry. Transplant patients and living kidney donors from the DHR Health Transplant Institute will also be part of the ceremony, highlighting the critical need for kidney donors.

95% of Americans support donation, but only 60% are registered.  A single organ donor can save and help improve the lives of 75 others through tissue and eye donation. By registering your decision to be a donor in the National Donate Life Registry, you are able to help save the lives and give hope to the 113,000 people in the United States currently waiting for transplants.

The community and La Plaza Mall shoppers are invited to the ceremony where they will have the opportunity to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.  The Rio Grande Valley is encouraged to sign up with Donate Life Texas as an organ, eye and tissue donor at DonateLifeTexas.org or at the Texas Department of Public Safety or Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

For more information about the DHR Health Transplant Institute or how to register to become an Organ Donor, please call, DHR Health Transplant Institute, at (956) 362-LIFE (5433).
