EDINBURG, Texas – The DHR Health Transplant Institute announced today that it has been recognized among the state’s and nation’s top performing kidney transplant centers, earning the no. 2 ranking in the State and no. 16 ranking in the Nation, according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR).

The SRTR, which is maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, publishes performance metrics for every transplant program in the nation twice annually, in January and July. The latest report was released on July 7, 2026, and is available online through the SRTR website at https://srtr.hrsa.gov.

This state and national accomplishment reflects the commitment the DHR Health Transplant Institute has to providing exceptional, patient-centered care as well as outstanding transplant outcomes for patients with end-stage kidney disease.

“These metrics reflect what matters most to our patients – receiving a kidney transplant sooner and achieving excellent outcomes afterward. This achievement is made possible due to every member of our transplant team – from physicians, nurses, operating room staff, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, financial coordinators, administrators, and countless others,” Dr. Sridhar Allam, DHR Health Transplant Institute Medical Director and Nephrologist. “We are deeply grateful to the extraordinary generosity of organ donors and their families whose selfless gifts transform lives, offers hope to patients in need of life saving transplants, and inspires us every day to strive for excellence.”

Allam went on to say then it is a privilege to provide world-class kidney transplant care close to home for the residents of the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas and that the DHR Health Transplant Institute is deeply grateful for the trust and confidence patients and referring physicians place in the team as they remain committed to continually advancing access, quality and outcomes for the communities they serve.

Established in 2017, the DHR Health Transplant Institute is the only facility of its kind serving adult patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and surrounding communities.

At the DHR Health Transplant Institute, a multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, physician assistants, nurse coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare providers collaborate to provide specialized and compassionate care for kidney, liver, and pancreatic disorders, including kidney transplantation.

“Congratulations to the entire DHR Health Transplant Institute team on this remarkable achievement. Being recognized as the No. 2 program in Texas and among the top programs in the nation is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and compassionate patient care,” said Marissa Castaneda, Senior Executive Vice President for DHR Health.

In 2025, the DHR Health Transplant Institute proudly performed 101 kidney transplants, a historic achievement for DHR Health and the Rio Grande Valley.

With esteemed rankings from SRTR, the DHR Health Transplant Institute remains committed to providing advanced kidney transplant care to patients of the Rio Grande Valley, where they are maximizing care and minimizing travel for our patients. This local access to advanced kidney transplant services significantly reduces financial and emotional burdens on patients and their families.
