“At DHR Health, we believe in expanding access to care,” said Marissa Castaneda, senior executive vice president for DHR Health. “That is our promise to the region. We want our residents to know that they do not have to leave home to receive world-class, specialized care that they need.”

As the month of February is considered “American Heart Month,” it is important to raise awareness about heart health so people can take actionable steps to prevent or reduce heart disease.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, some lifestyle tips to help improve overall heart health, include:

Increase physical activity
Maintain a healthy weight
Eat a nutritious diet
Manage stress levels
Quit smoking or don’t start

DHR Health cardiologists recommend speaking to a healthcare provider to make sure individuals know their weight, waist size, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels as each of these factors can affect heart disease.
