Edinburg, Texas –  DHR Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Henry Ruiz and Dr. Natalia Hernandez, both Urologists at DHR Health Urology Institute, are the first in the State of Texas to offer Revi, a newly FDA-authorized medical device designed to treat urge urinary incontinence (UUI) in both adult men and women. According to the Urology Care Foundation, urinary incontinence affects a quarter to a third of Americans.

UUI, also known as urgent bladder leaks, is a common and often embarrassing problem. It results in an urge to urinate that’s so sudden and strong that you are unable to get to a bathroom in time. It can be a disabling condition with physical, psychological, and social consequences that significantly impact the quality of life of those who suffer from it.

In a joint statement, Dr. Ruiz and Dr. Hernandez said, “Revi is another excellent option for patients with urinary urgency. It will most likely be a game-changer in the treatment of these patients. We are proud to be the first in the state to provide other alternatives to improve the quality of life of Rio Grande Valley patients with urinary urgency and urge urinary incontinence.”

In the OASIS clinical trial, at 12 months, 82.0% (114/139) of subjects completing the study achieved at least a 50% reduction in urge incontinence episodes. Revi also demonstrated a favorable safety profile with no device or procedure-related serious adverse events at 12 months, and 95% of study participants (124/130) were satisfied.

Revi is the only implantable tibial neuromodulation (iTNM) system on the market to feature a miniature implant along with innovative wearable technology to power the device. Revi is implanted near the ankle during a single outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia and without the potential adverse events seen with other surgical UUI therapies. When activated, the Revi implant stimulates the posterior tibial nerve to calm the bladder and provide relief from UUI. For activation, a lightweight wireless wearable is placed around the ankle once to twice daily to provide stimulation at the patient’s convenience.

“DHR Health is proud to have the honor of being the first in the State of Texas to offer this groundbreaking solution for urinary urgency incontinence. This minimally invasive outpatient procedure under local anesthesia will provide our patients with convenient and effective relief. This achievement reflects our commitment to providing the latest in medical care that helps improve the lives of our patients,” said Marissa Castaneda, DHR Health Senior Executive Vice-President.

Dr. Ruiz has been practicing medicine for over 20 years and has built his practice caring for citizens of the Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Hernandez, originally from Colombia, joined DHR Health in 2023 and specializes in women’s pelvic health.

New Noninvasive Tech Tracks Infant Vital Signs Without Wires

In the neonatal intensive care unit, the most fragile patients in medicine are often the most heavily wired. Premature babies, some weighing less than a pound, can be tethered to a tangle of cables, monitors, and sensors. Each blood draw to check sugar levels or electrolytes means another needle, another bandage, another moment of stress for an infant whose skin is still forming.
