EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health continues its commitment to community education and wellness through outreach efforts that encourage individuals to take charge of their health. Recently, Dr. Roque Mifuji, a DHR Health board-certified internal medicine physician, who also has an additional certification in obesity medicine, presented to employees of Lone Star National Bank and members of the Edinburg Rotary Club.
He spoke about the health risks associated with being overweight and obesity. During his presentation, Dr. Mifuji discussed the impact excess weight can have on overall health, strategies for prevention, and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, physical activity, and regular medical care. He also emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, which includes getting recommended adult health screenings and vaccinations that help detect and prevent serious health conditions before they become more advanced.
“At DHR Health, we believe education is one of the most powerful tools for improving health outcomes,” said Dr. Mifuji. “By providing our community with accurate information and resources, we can help individuals make informed decisions for themselves that will ultimately lead them to healthier lives.”
Dr. Mifuji earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and Master of Science in Immunology from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. He later completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, DHR Health program in Edinburg, where he also served as chief resident.
Prior to joining DHR Health, Dr. Mifuji served as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the UTRGV School of Medicine and helped develop lectures on chronic disease, point-of-care ultrasound, and communication skills. He also worked on several public health initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities through improved access and culturally tailored education, a testament to his dedication to improving long-term health outcomes for the RGV.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Mifuji is deeply passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians. He serves as an attending physician to internal medicine residents at this hospital, guiding their clinical training and development.
Dr. Mifuji specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic conditions in adult patients, as well as obesity medicine. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is deeply committed to improving health equity and strengthening medical education in the region’s predominantly Hispanic and underserved communities.
