Mission Texas – State Representative Sergio Muñoz, Jr. is seeking to nominate a bright and dedicated individual for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship (TASSP), a $10,000 per year award for up to four years. This individual must be enrolled in a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at a Texas institution of higher education and must commit to serving our country in a recognized military organization.
“The young men and women who are eligible for or have accepted these scholarships have my complete respect,” said Rep. Muñoz. “These students are dedicated to higher learning and to serving our Nation through the military; I could not be more proud to be associated with this program.”
The Texas Legislature created the TASSP to encourage students to participate in ROTC programs at civilian colleges. A student must meet specific eligibility criteria in order to receive an initial award. In addition to the eligibility criteria, a student must enter into an agreement requiring a four-year commitment as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marine or a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States. A maximum of 185 students may be appointed annually. A student may receive up to $10,000 for the 2014-2015 academic year and dependent on funding available, students may receive up to four years of awards.
Nominations for the 2014-2015 TASSP are now open for next year’s class (fall 2014/spring 2015 academic year), and Rep. Muñoz is looking for a potential student to nominate.
