Skilled healthcare professionals are in high demand nationwide, and Texas Southmost College (TSC) is meeting this need by offering a wide range of comprehensive Allied Health programs. These programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary for successful careers in the medical field. Through a combination of academic instruction, hands-on clinical training, and clearly defined credential pathways, TSC equips students with the skills and experience needed to enter the workforce confidently or continue building their credentials over time.

TSC’s Allied Health programs are designed to support students at various stages of their educational and professional paths. The programs are organized into two main categories: certification programs and associate degree pathways.

Certification Programs
These courses provide focused, career-oriented training for students seeking a more direct entry into healthcare professions. Level 1 certification programs typically require 15 credit hours, while Level 2 certifications require approximately 50 credit hours, making them a practical option for non-traditional students balancing work and family responsibilities. Current certification offerings include:

Students completing Level 1 EMS certification are eligible to take licensure exams and begin practicing as Emergency Medical Technicians, with opportunities to continue advancing through additional credentials.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
For students pursuing a broader academic foundation, this degree pathway offers a traditional two-year structure combined with specialized clinical training. These programs prepare graduates to sit for required licensure exams while developing advanced technical skills in their chosen fields. Associate-level programs include:

Across all Allied Health pathways, clinical training plays a vital role. Through partnerships with medical facilities throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including major regional hospitals, students gain practical real-world experience that bridges classroom learning and professional practice. These clinical experiences not only strengthen technical competencies but also allow students to build professional connections that often lead directly to employment opportunities after graduation.

Graduates of TSC’s Allied Health programs enter a field increasingly defined by mobility and opportunity. Licensure enables many to practice both within Texas and across the country, while others choose to continue their education by pursuing additional certifications or degrees within the healthcare sector. This stackable approach to credentials allows students to adapt their careers as interests develop and industry needs continue to evolve.
