EDINBURG, Texas –  DHR Health, one of the largest physician-owned hospitals in the United States and a proud healthcare provider for the Rio Grande Valley since 1997, is delighted to welcome Dr. Roque M. Mifuji to its growing network of specialists. As a board-certified internist with an additional certification in obesity medicine, Mifuji specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic conditions in adult patients. Mifuji is fluent in both English and Spanish and is deeply committed to improving health equity and strengthening medical education in the region’s predominantly Hispanic and underserved communities. 

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Mifuji to the DHR Health family,” said Marissa Castañeda, senior executive vice president at DHR Health. “His commitment to both clinical excellence and medical education is exactly what we strive to provide for our patients and future healthcare leaders in the Valley.” 

Mifuji earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and Master of Science in Immunology from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. He later completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, DHR Health program in Edinburg, Texas, where he also served as chief resident.

Prior to joining DHR Health, Mifuji served as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the UTRGV School of Medicine and helped develop lectures on chronic disease, point-of-care ultrasound, and communication skills. He also worked on several public health initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities through improved access and culturally tailored education, a testament to his dedication to improving long-term health outcomes for the RGV.

Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Mifuji is deeply passionate in teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians. He will serve as the attending physician to the internal medicine residents at DHR Health, guiding their clinical training and development. His commitment to addressing health disparities, along with his extensive clinical knowledge, are promising for the continued growth of the DHR Health Internal Medicine Residency Program and the quality of care provided to patients. 

“Through education, prevention, and compassionate care, we can work together to improve the health of our community. As both a primary care physician and medical educator, I am committed to supporting this effort and training the next generation of physicians to do the same,” said Mifuji.

Community Invited to DHR Health’s 16th Annual Free Health Fair, Feb. 21st 

In an effort to increase access to health services and resources, DHR Health will host its 16th annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, located at 118 Paseo del Prado in Edinburg. This free community event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon and is open to the public.
