Mega Doctor News
E-cigarettes, or vapes, are the most commonly used tobacco product among youth in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with more than one million students currently using e-cigarettes. More than 400,000 of those students are in middle school while 7% of them are in high school.
While e-cigarettes are marketed as an alternative to cigarettes, no tobacco product is safe, especially for children and teens.
Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, a highly addictive organic compound found in tobacco that can harm parts of an adolescent’s brain that control attention, learning, mood and impulse control. While e-cigarettes contain nicotine, some vapes can also be used to deliver cannabis and other drugs, per the CDC.
Individuals and organizations can play an important role in helping youth reject or quit vaping. Working together as a community helps ensure all youth live healthy, tobacco-free lives.
So, to help encourage Rio Grande Valley children and teens to refrain from vaping and provide education on the risks, South Texas Health System Children’s will dedicate its latest Let’s Talk Children’s Health webinar to vaping dangers on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Streaming live via the STHS Children’s Facebook page from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., the online seminar will provide viewers with education on the risks and effects of vaping and highlight strategies that parents and caregivers can use to keep their kids healthy and tobacco-free.
