DHR Health Brownsville Unveils New Mammogram Unit for “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”

Brownsville, Texas – DHR Health Brownsville held a pink themed ribbon cutting ceremony today to unveil its newest mammogram unit, aligning with “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” which begins in October. The event emphasized the importance of regular breast cancer screenings and showcased the advanced technology now available for Cameron County residents. 

“At DHR Health Brownsville, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of care to our patients, and this new mammogram unit is a testament to that commitment,” said Marissa Castaneda, DHR Health Senior Executive Vice President. 

Mammo Unit Ribbon Cutting: DHR Health Brownsville hosted a pink-themed ribbon-cutting ceremony today to unveil its new mammogram unit, marking the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The community event highlighted the importance of regular screenings and introduced advanced technology available to Cameron County residents. Guest speakers at the event included Dr. Karen Brooks, an experienced general and breast surgeon who has been serving the Cameron County community for well over 20 years. She encouraged attendees to prioritize their health and take advantage of the life-saving screenings services available at DHR Health Brownsville.

Special guests took guided tours of the hospital and mammogram suite and were reminded about the significance of early detection, which dramatically increases survival rates.

“Early detection through regular mammograms are the most important tools in the fight against breast cancer, and with the advanced technology now available, we can offer our patients even greater peace of mind,” said Aida Coronado-Garcia, DHR Health Brownsville Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. 

The new mammogram unit at DHR Health Brownsville is a Siemens Mammomat Revelation. The unit represents the latest in breast imaging technology, allowing for enhanced screening and diagnostic services. Their new mammography software, Volpara, provides an advanced Al software platform that enables a high-quality, optimized and personalized cancer screening experience. Volpara collects and analyzes information to better understand a patient’s personalized breast cancer risk and provides in-depth patient education and technologist analytics for performance improvement.
