EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Team proudly announces a significant milestone in their mission to provide top-tier cardiovascular care to the Rio Grande Valley—the successful completion of their 100,000th cath lab procedure.

Cardiac catheterization generally involves the use of tubes and other devices to assess heart function and treat certain heart conditions. The DHR Health Cardiac Catheterization laboratory, otherwise known as the Cath Lab, was established on December 20, 2004. The dedicated Cath Lab team is comprised of nurses and healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to support Cardiologists in providing the highest standards of heart health assessment and life-saving interventions in our community. Longtime DHR Health Cardiologist Dr. Subbarao Yarra was the first physician to perform a cardiac catheterization procedure, alongside cath lab team members, at the hospital. As fate would have it, on January 16, 2024, it was also Dr. Yarra, along with cath lab team members, who reached the impressive achievement of performing 100,000 procedures, less than 20 years since their establishment.

At DHR Health, the Cath Lab offers a comprehensive range of procedures including: Cardiac Catheterization, Angiography, Atherectomy, Balloon Angioplasty, Thrombectomy, Intravascular, Lithotripsy, Stenting, Pacemaker and Defibrillator Implantation, Electrophysiology, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), and TMVR (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement).

The implementation of several technological innovations has contributed to the Cath Lab success, including the integration of 3D mapping technology supporting electrophysiology studies, a hybrid lab facilitating TAVR and TMVR (MitraClip) procedures, the incorporation of the Impella heart pump, and the utilization of Intravascular Lithotripsy.

Dr. Manish Singh

“This accomplishment is a testament to our dedication to providing exceptional cardiovascular care,” said DHR Health Chief Executive Officer Manish Singh. “At DHR Health, we are committed to ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of care possible. Congratulations on a job well done!”

Looking ahead, the Cath Lab team remains steadfast in their pursuit of innovation and excellence, maintaining their position as leaders in cardiovascular care.

“We will continue our commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements to ensure that our patients receive the highest standard of care while achieving optimal outcomes,” added Dr. Singh.
