MCALLEN, TX (August 25, 2016) – Doctors Hospital at Renaissance has donated $2,500 to the Valley Scholars Program at South Texas College.

With their donation to the 11th Annual “A Night with the Stars” at a special check ceremony on Tuesday Aug. 23, DHR has become the latest sponsor that has affirmed their support for the brightest students in the Valley. Net proceeds from the event go to fund scholarships for the Valley Scholars Program at STC.

“We were established in 1997 to promote academic excellence at STC,” said Jessica S. Garcia, Coordinator of the Valley Scholars Program at STC. “We are very proud of our students and work hard to ensure their success.  We hold monthly meetings, participate in community service events, and provide academic services such as advising and registration.  Through the help of our sponsors, we provide scholarships to high performing students from Hidalgo and Starr County.  We are very thankful for the support we receive from the community and look forward to celebrating their generosity at the 11th Annual “A Night with the Stars.”

South Texas College will host its 11th Annual “A Night with the Stars” event on Oct. 13. The theme “A Tribute to Star Supporters of Education” has been designated to honor all sponsors for their continuing support to the Valley Scholars Program.

“The importance of DHR giving back to institutions like South Texas College is we have a lot of shared alignment and vision,” said Marisa Castaneda, Chief Operations Officer at DHR. “Many graduates from South Texas College come here and help us deliver care as nurses or technologists. Some work in our business office with our information systems technology. Again, this is just a very small token of our commitment to higher learning in the region. We are proud to partner with South Texas College, and we look forward to the graduates helping us deliver care here.”
