Edinburg, TX – Dr. Cynthia A. Garcia is a well-known outpatient physiatrist in the Rio Grande Valley and will lead the Outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) development team for DHR Health Hospital System. Her base will be in Harlingen, TX where she was in private practice for 26 years.  Her special interests lie in conservative musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine and MSK ultrasound.

She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient PM&R settings valley-wide throughout her career.  She enjoys teaching at community functions as well as to medical students and residents. She oversaw physical therapists in her private practice and now will offer that physiatric supervision to the entire outpatient physical and occupational therapy team.  This allows for appropriate, high level consultations and a team approach to treating some more complicated MSK patients.  And this comes at the right time given DHR Health’s recent Level 1 Trauma certification.

In addition to this, she has worked closely with local businesses, especially the self-insured, to assist them in their work related injuries and most importantly preventing them in the first place.  Because conservative MSK medicine is usually not taught to any great extent in medical or advance practitioners’ school, she sees it as her mission to share her knowledge with all members of the medical, as well as, non-medical community.
