DHR Continuing Medical Education Presents: Brush Country Medicine and Survival Conference

South Texas is a premier location for hunting and fishing, yet many people are unaware of the hidden dangers that these sports present. The Brush Country Medicine Survival Conference will cover how to treat injuries and medical emergencies while in the brush country, such as snake bites, spider bites, poison ivy, gunshot wounds, heat related illness, drowning and other emergent issues that may arise. Faculty were chosen by expertise in their medical field.

Who Should Attend:
This course was designed for all physicians, allied health professionals, first responders, law enforcement officers, EMS, EMT, and firefighters as well as the local community.

Learning Objectives:
• Discuss how to treat injuries such as snake bites, spider bites, poison ivy, foot blisters.
• Recognize the approaches needed when faced with heat illness or frostbite.
• Review what to do in case of drowning/ near drowning.
• Identify what you need to survive in the brush country.
• Describe Texas Wildlife and Conservation guidelines.
• Discuss border safety when confronted by non-hunters.
• Identify the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment.
