Jennifer Lewis

The Texas Medical Association Alliance (TMAA) has elected Jennifer Lewis of San Antonio to serve as president. Her one-year term began on Thursday. TMAA is the community service and advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association (TMA), comprising spouses and partners of physicians, in addition to physicians, resident physicians, and medical students.

Ms. Lewis has served the community as a leader of the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance since 2014, beginning with her position as vice president of civic and philanthropic activities, and eventually serving as president of the local alliance chapter. She went on to serve on various committees and on the board of TMAA.

As president, Ms. Lewis said her goal is to develop a deeper connection and belonging for members of the Family of Medicine. In light of the recent strain and isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Lewis believes reconnecting members with each other and helping them influence deep connections within the greater Texas community is paramount to the overall mental and physical health of Texans.

Ms. Lewis received a bachelor’s degree in English from Rice University and a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology, at The University of Texas at Austin. She has worked in that field periodically since 1994. Most recently, she specialized in feeding therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. She is married to W. Cannon Lewis, MD, a colorectal surgeon and member of the TMA House of Delegates policymaking body. The couple has called San Antonio home for the past 11 years, since Dr. Lewis fulfilled his commitment to the U.S. Air Force. They have four young adult children: Cannon II, Aubrey, Olivia, and Tabitha. Together, Jennifer and Cannon enjoy working on their ranch, traveling, playing golf, and entertaining their beloved dogs, Trixie and Juno.

The Texas Medical Association Alliance (TMAA) is a group of individuals passionate about protecting the future of medicine through community service and legislative advocacy. The Alliance – consisting of physician spouses, physicians, residents, and medical students – provides advocacy, community of support, mentorship, and lasting friendship in the Family of Medicine.
