The Texas Tribune

Texas teachers, school and Head Start program staff and people who work as child care providers are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines, the Texas Department of State Health Services said Wednesday. Texas had not previously prioritized teachers. The news comes as some school districts are likely to face contentious discussions about whether to continue requiring masks in schools in the aftermath of Texas rescinding its statewide mask order.

As of March 2, less than 10% of Texans have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. This week, Texans have started to receive doses of the newly approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one dose. But vaccine supplies still fall far short of both the demand and the number of people eligible to get it. Get Texas’ latest COVID-19 vaccination numbers here
