EDINBURG, TEXAS – With 1,200 Work Safe certificates now issued, Edinburg’s Stay Home, Work Safe Compliance Teams are hitting the streets daily to ensure compliance.

“We’re taking every precaution to protect our residents and keep our community healthy,” said Mayor Molina. “Submitting the plan and getting approval was the first step. Now, we are making sure businesses are following through with those measures.”

The Work Safe Plan requires, among other things, businesses to provide hand sanitation at all entrances for customers.  It also includes practices such as ensuring customers and employees stay at least six feet away from each other.  Businesses not in compliance could be forced to shut their doors.

The Compliance Team is also enforcing the City’s order mandating residents to stay home, unless performing an essential function. The City has doubled the number of police officers patrolling the streets as well as establishing a Park Patrol to keep compliance at City parks.

“Everyone who lives in Edinburg should know about the order. You need to stay home. It’s for your safety and the safety of this community,” Mayor Molina said. “Go to the store, get what you need and go back home. The whole family doesn’t have to go with you. Go the park and go for a jog but keep your distance from people around you.  It’s up to you to limit contact with others.”

Anyone found in violation of the Stay Home, Work Safe order could face a $1,000.00 fine and/or up-to 180 days in jail.
