PHARR -Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD students can now have on-demand access to healthcare at their school nurse’s office through the newly launched PSJA Telemedicine Program.

Thanks to a partnership with Urgent Care for Kids and Preventive Health Solutions, the PSJA Telemedicine Program allows students to be treated by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant right in their school nurse’s office through a two-way video conference.

This service provides students, through trained school nursing staff, the ability to connect via on-demand video chat with a Texas-based provider in minutes.

Students will be diagnosed as soon as they begin showing symptoms and return to class or be sent home if needed, saving parents time, according to PSJA Health Services Director Sulema Solis. The program is available to all 32,000-plus students in the district’s 43 schools.

Some of the medical services available are: onsite rapid flu and strep testing, over the counter medications, pain relievers, treatments for allergic reactions, skin infections, cold treatment, nausea, and wound care.

“Our student’s health is very important,” PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo said. “Through our new PSJA Telemedicine Program, students can be seen at our nurse’s office and quickly determine if more care is needed or if they are able to return to class.”

All PSJA ISD insured and non-insured students are eligible for the program, but parents need to complete a Consent Form so their children can access these services during school hours. To register, parents can visit www.psjaisd.us/telemedicine.
