Edinburg, Texas — DHR Health is proud to congratulate our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert D. Martinez, on his appointment to the Texas Medical Board.  On June 14, 2018, Governor Greg Abbott announced the appointment of Dr. Martinez to serve on the board through April 13, 2019.

The Texas Medical Board is tasked with regulating the practice of medicine in the State of Texas.  Their mission is to protect and enhance the public’s health, safety, and welfare by establishing and maintaining standards of excellence used in regulating the practice of medicine and ensuring quality health care for the citizens of Texas through licensure, discipline, and education.  The Texas Medical Board is comprised of 19 members: nine doctors of medicine, three doctors of osteopathy, and seven public members.

“The appointment of Dr. Robert Martinez, one our own, to the Texas Medical Board is excellent for the Rio Grande Valley,” said Dr. Carlos Cardenas, DHR Health Chairman of the Board and Texas Medical Association Immediate Past President.  “As Chief Medical Officer at DHR, Dr. Martinez brings a world of experience to the position from a vantage point that is able to see the practice of medicine from all sides.  I am very proud to congratulate my friend and colleague, and I believe his appointment is a real asset to the Texas Medical Board, the State of Texas, and South Texas in particular.”
