RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – As part of its ongoing commitment to bringing world-class healthcare to the Rio Grande Valley, DHR Health is pleased to announce the addition of double board-certified transplant nephrologist, Dr. Victor E. Prado. Dr. Prado will provide care to patients at DHR Health’s Transplant Institute, the only kidney transplant facility of its kind serving patients throughout the RGV, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and surrounding communities.

A native of Lima, Peru and bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Prado graduated from medical school at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, in Peru. He completed his residency in internal medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois and went on to complete two fellowships in general nephrology and transplant nephrology at the University of California San Francisco.

“We greatly welcome Dr. Prado to DHR Health as we are committed to expanding access to specialized medical services in our area, so patients and their families don’t have to travel outside of the Rio Grande Valley to receive the advanced and high-quality care that they need,” said Marissa Castaneda, senior executive vice president at DHR Health.

Dr. Prado brings extensive experience to transplant nephrology as he manages comprehensive care of kidney patients before, during and after kidney transplantation, working alongside DHR Health transplant surgeons and a multidisciplinary team at DHR Health.

“I am very excited to join DHR Health and become part of a team that is committed to making advanced kidney transplant care more accessible to patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley and surrounding communities. I see this as a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the growth of the Transplant Institute, work alongside an outstanding multidisciplinary team, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. My goal is to provide compassionate, comprehensive, and personalized care while helping expand the opportunities for patients to receive the gift of a kidney transplant close to home,” said Dr. Prado.

As the only kidney transplant center serving the Rio Grande Valley, the DHR Health Transplant Institute plays a critical role in providing life-saving kidney transplant care close to patients. It is also the only transplant center south of San Antonio that is approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the contractor for the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), for both its adult kidney transplant and living kidney donor programs.

Dr. Prado is now accepting new patients at his office in the DHR Health Medical Building, located at 1100 E. Dove Avenue, 2nd floor, in McAllen. The institute accepts various health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. To schedule an appointment, please call (956) 362-5433.
