PHARR / EDINBURG, Texas – To help Rio Grande Valley students begin the school year equipped for academic success, the National Hispanic Professionals Organization Rio Grande Valley (NHPO-RGV) Chapter recently donated school supplies collected during its August networking mixer to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley (Food Bank RGV).
Held at Tahona Cantina Regional, the donation drive encouraged attendees to bring essential school items, including notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders and other classroom necessities, to support local students and families preparing for the new school year.
In total, NHPO-RGV collected approximately $1,400 worth of school supplies, enough to fill 168 backpacks. The effort was bolstered by a significant contribution from the Lions Club of Mission, whose donation helped expand the impact of the drive.
The donated supplies will be distributed through Food Bank RGV to children and families across the region, helping ensure students have the tools they need to begin the 2026-27 academic year ready to learn and succeed.
The initiative reflects NHPO-RGV’s ongoing commitment to serving the community and creating opportunities for educational success throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools we can provide future generations, and having the necessary school supplies can make a meaningful difference in a student’s learning experience,” said Emilio Santos, Chair, NHPO-RGV. “We’re grateful to everyone who contributed during our networking mixer and helped us support local families as they prepare for a new school year.”
Food Bank RGV serves thousands of families across the region through hunger relief programs and community partnerships.
By collaborating with organizations like NHPO-RGV, the food bank is able to provide additional resources that help meet the needs of local children beyond food assistance.
